TagFinder

The Connected Devices browser in the Designer has no search box. TagFinder adds one. Type to filter what is on screen, or hit Enter to search every folder on the device and get each match with its full path.

If you have ever gone looking for one tag on a device with a few thousand of them, you know the drill: open a folder, scan it, open the next one. TagFinder puts a search box on Ignition's own browse dialog. Everything else about that dialog works the way it did, including how you import.

What it does

Type to filter
Narrows what is already on screen as you type. Instant.
Press Enter to search
Goes through every folder and sub-folder on the device and lists each match with its full path. Usually under a second. Cancel any time and you keep what it found.
One device or all of them
Whatever you have selected in the tree is what gets searched. The button tells you which before you press it: Search [Air-Compressor-1], or Search all.
Import the usual way
Matches show up in the dialog's own tree, so selecting, dragging and the Import buttons all still work.
What you can type
temp finds Zone3_TempSP. zone temp finds it whichever order the words are in. zone*sp for a wildcard, "zone 3" for an exact phrase. Folder names count too, so you can narrow it that way.

Installing it

Install the module

Download the .modl, then Gateway → Config → Modules → Install or Upgrade a Module. Accept the certificate prompt if you get one. If you already run one of our modules, you won't.

Restart the gateway

Ignition 8.3 has no hot install, so nothing changes until it comes back.

Reopen the Designer

The Devices button shows up in the Tag Browser toolbar, next to the search icon.

Questions

Is it really free?
Yes. No key, no trial, no limits, and there is no paid version with the good parts in it. Put it on as many gateways as you want, at work or at home.
How do I import what I find?
Same as always. Results sit in the dialog's own tree, so selecting, dragging and the Import buttons all work on them.
Does it change Ignition’s own Browse Devices?
No. It adds its own Devices button to the Tag Browser toolbar and leaves Ignition's alone, so you can still open the stock one whenever you want.
Which Ignition versions?
Ignition 8.3, Maker Edition and trial mode included. It won't run on 8.1.
